Fall fell fast at the library - we blinked, and November was gone!
The library was the grateful recipient of an exciting gift - $10,000 from the Carnegie Foundation. If you are unaware, the Glenwood Public Library is a Carnegie Library. The library was founded with a donation of $7,000 from the Carnegie Foundation in 1907. Prior to that, our community was served by the Women’s Club, who organized a library housed over city hall. The original Carnegie gift allowed for the construction of our current library, and this new gift will allow for a major investment in expanding the library collection and providing new programming for our community.
This month the library received numerous memorial donations in honor of Vickie McClintic, including from Cathy and Steve Stone, Marti Cheyney and Beth Ochsner, and many, many others who chose to remain anonymous. The Library accepts monetary donations in memory of community members and uses those funds for book purchases, or, when specified, other library needs. We thank those who chose gifts to the library as a way to honor their loved ones who passed.
As the winter holidays approach, please check the library website and social media for upcoming activities. Quilting Club is Dec. 6th, 10am; and the History Book Club will discuss A Northern Light Dec. 18th, 1pm. Memory Mates is on hold until after the first of the year.
The Youth Department Winter Party is Dec. 19th, 2-5pm. Kick off winter break with fun, crafts, and snacks! In anticipation of colder weather, Tuesday Story Time will start at 10:15 beginning Dec 1st. We invite patrons to fill out a survey in the Children’s Dept to guide other Story Time days and times and help us learn how best to serve the community with this service.
We will close at 4pm Weds, Nov 26, and remain closed the following Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. In December we will be closed on the 24th and 25th for Christmas, then closing at 4pm on New Years Eve, and closed New Years Day.
