From the Library Director

Library Life
Let me start by giving a big “Thank you!” to our library patrons and community for the warm welcome to the city library. I started my tenure as the Glenwood Public Library Director on Sept. 14th and it’s been a whirlwind of activity since! I am enjoying settling into a routine, while learning from the great staff and library board that did monumental things while the library lacked a director all summer. I look forward to bringing back programs that were paused during a director’s absence and piloting new programming over the coming months.
Fall is a busy time for Glenwood, from Homecoming to harvest, and the library is no exception. We started the school year strong with early out Wednesday times spent crafting, snacking, and gaming. I want to thank students for being respectful to staff and each other during these and other times spent at the library. A reminder to the community that the library is not a childcare service and unaccompanied children must adhere to the behavior policy found on the library website. Children who do not adhere to policies may be asked to leave for the day, and repeated offenders may be asked to not return without an adult present. We look forward to maintaining a safe and respectful space for both patrons and staff at all times.
The library staff enjoyed seeing our youngest patrons during Squarecrow Days, at our Fall Party, and at Northeast's Trunk or Treat. We hope you will continue to come visit the library for youth programming, including Story Time on Tuesdays at 10am and Thursdays at 1pm. Other monthly upcoming events include Quilting Club (Nov 1st, 10am), Memory Mates (Nov 4th and 18th, 2pm), Craft and Chat (Fri, Nov 14th, 10am). This month the History Book Club meets on Thurs, Nov 20th at 1pm to discuss The Secret History of the Pink Carnation, a perfect companion to October’s Scarlet Pimpernel. Reminder - the library is closed Nov. 11th in observance of Veteran’s Day, then again Nov. 27th and 28th for Thanksgiving.
